Based in Ilulissat, on the west coast 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle, our photo group went out every evening in a small boat to look for icebergs, whales, and good light, which lasted until 11:00 PM or so.

Ilulissat means "iceberg" in Greenlandic. Greenland’s Ilulissat Icefjord is the sea mouth of Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the sea.

There are now flights to Greenland from New York, but at the time of this trip in 2022 there were no direct flights there from North America. You had to fly to Reykjavik or Copenhagen and then take a small plane from there.
